Realising that with her father’s fading strength a role reversal was taking place and finding herself looking after the man who had once looked after her, photographer Maika Elan started recreating some of her childhood memories. Together they travelled back in time and returned to the parks they had played in when the she was still a child.

The result is a photo series that is both melancholic and hopeful and manages to convey the need to reminisce and focus on what makes life beautiful, when facing the kind of hardship that prolonged and serious sickness brings with it.
